“Another year over and a new one just begun,” the lyrics to a Beatles song. The new year is a time when many will make resolutions. Are you making any this year? I found this list of seven resolutions I would like to share with you by the Rev. Walter Schoedel. He calls them the ‘7-UPS for the New Year.’ It has nothing to do with the soft drink. All of them fall under the heading of attitudes and actions.
The first is WAKE UP - begin the day with the Lord.
The second is DRESS UP - Put on a smile. It improves your looks and says something about your attitude.
The third is SHUT-UP - Watch your tongue. Don’t gossip. Say nice things. Learn to listen.
The fourth is STAND-UP - Take a stand for what you believe. Resist evil. Do good.
The fifth is LOOK-UP - Open your eyes to the Lord. He is your only Savior.
The sixth is REACH-UP - Spend time in prayer with your praise, confessions, and thanksgivings to the Lord.
The seventh is LIFT-UP - Be available to help those in need by serving, supporting and sharing.
These resolutions are worth making and keeping. Time is swiftly passing by so let us all make resolutions that make the most of our time, energy, resources and talents. And of course, I would like to add one more. See you in worship each Lord’s Day!
